Have You Met Our Hybrids?

You may have seen them around the club or heard of a Hybrid being referred to, without actually knowing what this means or understanding the added value they bring. Meet Melissa and Neil our two Hybrids. You can find them in club nearly every day of the week and are here to help you get more from your training.

A Hybrid is a fully qualified Personal Trainer that spends some of their time supporting our Leisure Team, offering appointments and assisting members. They have dedicated weekly appointment slots which means we can guarantee your appointment will be with them.

Melissa takes care of all the Ladies’ Only Appointments. She can be found in club on:

Mondays 5-8pm

Wednesdays 8-11am 

Thursdays 11-2pm

Sundays 10-1pm

Melissa describes what she does in the following way:

“Whatever your goal is in fitness/sport, I’ll help you get there. As a qualified and accredited sports scientist, strength and conditioning coach and someone who’s played semi pro football before as well as regularly competes in competitions such as Hyrox, fitness is a huge passion of mine.

I get to know all my clients in depth so I can ensure my programmes are personalised and specific to you. My sports science background ensures my programming will be challenging but also achievable. Training has improved my physical health and my mental strength, and I’d love to help you along your health journey. If you want to know more please say hi and let’s have a chat!”

She also runs a weekly workshop on a Thursday @1pm called EmpowerHER! Based in the Ladies’ Only Gym and bookable in the classes section of the app, this is designed exclusively for women, and is your guide to unlocking your full potential in our ladies-only gym environment.

Neil is one of our recovery specialists and very passionate about making activity available to all. He is available on the following days and times:

Tuesdays 11-3pm

Wednesdays 6-9pm

Thursdays 8-11am

Saturdays 2- 5pm

He runs a weekly workshop designed to help you improve your CV training. Every Saturday at 2pm join Neil in the CV area to discover how to increase your Cardio Fitness. Learn how to use the CV equipment properly so you can get the most out of your training. Join Neil for this small group workshop where you will leave empowered and confident to get the most out of the CV equipment and training.

Neil has recently completed some further training and says:

“I am now a qualified exercise referral instructor, so can programme exercise for members with a range of chronic medical conditions, which brings a new element into my skills as a PT.  After starting to exercise later on in life, I bring a lot of life experience to the role and feel I understand and acknowledge the challenges the ageing process can create.

When I saw how exercise improved my physical and mental health, I decided to become a personal trainer so I could help and influence people to be the best version of themselves. As well as the gym, I also enjoy cycling and running and have now run five marathons including an ultra marathon which I could have never envisaged myself doing pre 2020. I have recently completed the Yorkshire 3 Peaks hike in extreme weather conditions, I am currently preparing for the National 3 Peaks 24 hour challenge and I am about to start training for a marathon in October.”
